The Democratic Governor just need two GOP voted in each chamber of the Legislature for the special elections to be approved. The ballot would ask Californians to vote whether they want to extend the temporary increases in the personal income, sales, and vehicle taxes that were implemented two years ago. The governor would seek to cut $12.5 billion in spending to help decrease the $26.6 billion deficit.

Governor Browns wants to get the voting on tax extensions before the measures expire in July. County clerks stated that they need at least 88 days to prepare for an election. That means time is running out for the governor. He has until June 21 at most for the special elections.

The Republican leaders in California Legislature met with Governor Brown to discuss various reforms, such as state spending cap, decreased regulations on businesses and a pension reform. But to date the Republicans haven’t announced any demands to the public.
